| ANGEL A. SALVA JR. Angel A. Salva Jr. was born on Governor’s Island, NY and raised in Perth Amboy, NJ. His father always wanted to learn how to play the trumpet and encouraged Angel to do the same. Salva Jr. began taking trumpet lessons & theory while attending elementary school in 1964. Shortly after, he joined school bands and expanded his knowledge but, high school would be the changing point in Angel’s musical path. At the age of 15, Angel was asked to join Francisco G. Gomez y Orquesta Cultural. The director took Angel under his wing and molded the innate talent he possessed. Angel acquired musical roots practically non existent today. He quickly became known for his ability to lead and improvise. Since then, he has taken an interest in the valve trombone and taught himself how to hit the deep, powerful sounds this instrument can emit. Angel has performed with Orquesta Areyto, La Independiente, Combo Latino, Tuto Feliciano, Impacto Sensual, Toque Final and Orquesta Chango, just to name a few. When the demand for salsa vanished, Angel had to change faces and venture a new avenue. And so he did during the merengue era and performed with Orquesta Cache, Daniel DeJesus and Saraguey. He currently directs the horn section in Orquesta Son Del Pueblo. With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Salva is in demand. Angel has performed at numerous venues and clubs; some of which no longer exist and some that still live on. He gives thanks to his parents, mentors, fellow musicians and fans for their support. It is through them that he gained courage, knowledge and the ability to entertain. |
