| DENNIS FELICIANO “TIMBALERO” Dennis is a native of Ponce, Puerto Rico and was raised in Perth Amboy, NJ. He always had an itch for percussion and began playing the drum set at a very young age. Soon, a family member would inspire him to grow in Latin Music. At age of seventeen his uncle asked him to study the timbal and he accepted the request. William “Willy Timbal” Rodriguez, former timbalero for La Sonora Ponceña, began teaching him the rudiments. He was taken by the syncopated patterns and fiery improvisation which motivated him to pursue his musical path. His rapid growth allowed others to see his talent and he received his first break with Sexteto Unico. While gaining experience with this group, he studied other instruments such as the conga, bongo, guiro, maracas and coro. With the ability to fill in for multiple positions, Mr. Feliciano was in demand. This “Callejero” became well known and performed with Orquesta Areyto, Orquesta Sabor, Orquesta Juan Pacheco, Combo Latino, La Sonica, Proyecto Clemente and many others. His influences are Tito Puente and Roberto Roena but he undeniably has his own style. Dennis currently works with Son Del Pueblo and is a co-founder of the Orquesta. This timbalero gives thanks to his fellow musicians and fans. His greatest joy is entertaining the crowd and so he does… |
